Lampshade Fittings & Lightbulb Guide
Lampshade Fitting
All of our lampshades are suitable for UK and EU fittings. The fitting ring is the part which sits over your light fitting, connecting your lampshade to your lamp. The converter (reducer) ring size is 29mm (suitable for standard UK lamp fittings). This can be easily be removed to increase the fitting ring size to 40mm (suitable for standard EU fittings).

The fitting sits 40mm inside the lampshade. This will be at the top or the bottom depending on your lampshade pendant position (table at the bottom or ceiling at the top).

If you would like your lampshade to fit lower or higher than our standard fittings please get in contact to discuss suitable fittings for your lamp base.
Our Empire and Conical lampshades come on a duplex frame that requires the use of a carrier for a table/standard fitting or a spider fitting for a ceiling shade. You will be supplied the correct size carrier for your lampshade.
For USA Harp/Finial fittings you will require a Duplex Converting Kit to connect your lampshade to the top of the light fitting.
The Duplex Converting Kit is a three part system comprising of:
-
Spider Fitting - Lamp Shade Duplex Adaptor
-
E27/E26 to B22/E14 Lampshade Reducer / Converter Adapter
-
Converting Washers - centre hole size 110mm
(There are two standard sizes for Harp systems, 1/4" and 3/8" our Converting Washers will fit them both.
Conversion chart with imperial and metric measurements.
Inches Metric
1/4" 6.35 mm
5/16" 7.95 mm
3/8" 9.53 mm
Our system works with these sizes, but If the Harp stem is bigger, you can make the hole in the washer bigger to fit.)

Candle clip lampshades fit over a candle bulb and can be used for wall, chandelier and small table lamps.

Candle clip lampshades have a 5.1cm/2" metal internal clip fitting.
Light Bulb Watts and Lumens
Berry & Grouse recommend energy saving light bulbs with our lampshades. If using a regular bulb, a 60 watt or under. Watt ratings indicate how much energy the light bulb uses. The higher the watt, the more energy the light bulb requires. The lumens is a measure of the light bulb brightness. The higher the number of lumens, the brighter the light bulb.

Different fabrics will allow more or less light through the panel of the lampshade. Light weight and thin fabrics (e.g. linen and light weight cotton) allow more light through the panel, heavy weight and thick fabrics (e.g. heavy weight cotton and wool) allow less light through the lampshade panel.
